Types of MS Plate
- Plain hot rolled MS plate (also called MS steel plate): used for base plates, tanks, fabrication and machine bases.
- MS chequered plate (also called checker or chakkar plate): has a raised pattern for grip, used for platforms, stair treads, flooring and vehicle bodies.

Plate Weight by Thickness
Plain plate weighs about 7.85 kg per square metre for each millimetre of thickness. This is useful for estimating tonnage. Chequered plate weighs slightly more because of the raised pattern.
