How MS Pipe Sizes Are Specified
Round pipe is often sold by nominal bore (NB) size in inches. A 2 inch (50 mm NB) pipe has an outside diameter of about 60.3 mm and a 4 inch (100 mm NB) pipe about 114.3 mm, as per IS 1239. Square and rectangular pipe is specified by outside dimensions and wall thickness, for example 40 x 40 x 2 mm.
